In General:

The Desert Express travels, subject to availability:

Fridays:     Windhoek to Swakopmund

Saturdays: Swakopmund to Windhoek

 

 
Your Vehicle:

Should you consider a 1-way journey only and want to take your vehicle on the train - Sprinter sized buses - Caravelle sized buses - Kombis and normal sedan cars can be loaded on the train for the 1-way journey at an extra charge of N$450 per vehicle, nett. Indemnity forms must be completed by you and the arrangement made in advance.

 

 
Smoking:

All compartments are strictly Non-Smoking.

NB: Smoking on the Desert Express is only allowed in the demarcated area.

 

 
Meals on Board:

 

Dinner: Guests have 1 choice of a starter, 1 choice of a main course and 1 choice of dessert. This need not be pre-selected and each person can have their own choice / selection on the evening.

The restaurant car can seat a maximum of 29 guests at one sitting. and if the train is fully booked then 2 sittings will be necessary.

The 1st sitting at 19h00

The 2nd sitting at 21h00, if such case arises

Children ages 4 to 12 have dinner at the Bistro at 18h00

 

Breakfast: is served from 07h00 - 08h00 on a first come first served basis.

 

Lunch: On longer trips, e.g. Etosha & 6 day tours a set menu buffet style lunch is served to accommodate all passengers to eat at the same time.

 

On shorter trips, e.g. Windhoek to Swakopmund & visa versa, open sandwiches are served during lunchtime travel time.

 

Special Dietary Preferences:  Whilst the menus make provision for 'basic' vegetarians, it is crucial that you advise in advance should you have any specific dietary requirements that need to be catered for.

There is a special menu catering for Halaal, but this requirement must be advised of well in advance.

Handicapped Persons: Desert Express need to be informed of any ailments, disabilities etc. well in advance, especially if this may cause a problem during the guest's trip, or when partaking in any of the offered excursions.

this needs to be advised well in advance of your trip.

 

 
Transfers: Please note that the agent / or passengers themselves are responsible for all own transfers, to and from the respective train stations and airports. Kindly book transfers directly accordingly or make your own alternative arrangements. This is with reference to the transfers outside of the package and which are not included.
